Power to the Moms: How AI Flips the Script on the Spread of Technology

When I read the article “Power to the People: How LLMs Flip the Script on Technology Diffusion” by Andrej Karpathy, former director of AI at Tesla and one of the co-founders of OpenAI (aka ChatGPT), the mom side of me felt something that doesn’t happen often when I read about tech:

I felt seen.

Not because he mentioned moms directly - He didn’t. But because what he was talking about, the way AI is being used now, is exactly what modern moms are starting to do every day, often without realizing how revolutionary it is.

Karpathy’s big point? In the past, when new technology came out, it spread from the top down. Researchers got it first. Then developers. Then it trickled down into products and apps… and maybe years later, regular people like you and me, would see it show up in our lives.

But now? With tools like ChatGPT?

That model has flipped. That’s massive.

AI Isn’t Trickling Down. It’s Spilling Over.

With large language models (LLMs), anyone with a phone can access some of the most advanced tech in the world, instantly.

No degrees. No gatekeepers. No waiting for someone to “make it mom-friendly.”If you can type, you can use it. If you can ask for help, you can get it.

That’s not just a shift in tech. That’s a shift in who gets to benefit from it first.

And if you’re a mom juggling the chaos of work, home, emotions, meals, bedtime, boundaries, and everything in between, this matters more than you might think.

Why This Matters for Moms

This isn’t about being “into tech.”It’s about access. About support.

We're using one of the most powerful tools on the planet to:

  • Create routines, stories, schedules, or affirmations in minutes

  • Plan and organize without needing 17 tabs or paid tools

  • Learn without signing up for courses or waiting for experts

  • Parent better, because we can find the words, solutions, and scripts that work in our households, right now

This is the kind of “power to the people” moment Karpathy was talking about and moms are right in it.

AI Isn’t the Future. It’s Now.

And It’s Yours.

This is the first time in modern tech history that moms don’t have to wait. You don’t need to understand AI to use it. You don’t need a PhD to benefit from it. You don’t need a product to be built for moms because with the right question (prompt), you can build it yourself.

Need a toddler-friendly script for a difficult emotion? Want a personalized bedtime routine that works with your child’s personality? Need to write a kind email while you're touched out and tired?

Ask.

Because the power really is in our hands now. That’s wild.

You’re Not Late to This. You’re Right On Time.

Tech has always made moms wait. This time, we’re early. We’re learning. We’re building. And we’re using the most advanced tools in the world. In a way no one predicted.

The co-founder of OpenAI might not have had you in mind when he wrote that post. But make no mistake.. He’s talking about you.

Want to Try?

Here are a few prompts I’ve used this week:

  • “Write a gentle script for a 3-year-old who’s scared of thunder and won’t go to bed.”

  • “Help me organize our week with meals, pickups, and realistic downtime.”

  • “Explain the concept of jealousy to a preschooler in a loving way.”

That is not the future. That is right now.
